December 12 (disarray)
I ran an errand on foot this afternoon here in Decatur, the Friendliest Neighborhood in the World. Or so I thought. Gone for 20 minutes, arrived back home to find all the good stuff gone, everything upside down. Laptop, camera, lenses, etc. gone. Cut the screen on the back porch and came in through the back door, opened drawers, dumped stuff out. Bleh.
I'm writing this at the public library a couple of blocks from my home. Somehow it feels therapeutic to share it here in my state of semi-numbness.
Thank God for renter's insurance. It's $500 I had not exactly wished to spend on my deductible, but I'm covered. It's just stuff, right? My mom, ever rejoicing, says, "Well, at least you didn't walk in on the guy. At least you didn't get shot!"
I suppose that is true.
What's creepiest is thinking of somebody walking around in my apartment, opening my drawers, dumping stuff out, rearranging things. Ugh.
Friends, back up your computer files, write your important serial numbers down on paper and make sure you have appropriate property insurance. I never thought this would happen to me, but it did. I'm really sad about it.
